Free Landscaping Ideas
Here is another free landscaping idea that you
can steal and use as your own.
A lot of ideas for landscaping rely on the property owner having a
large area to work with, but what if you only have small or smallish area to
work with?
Not a problem. Even people in high rises can have their very own garden
to look at!
Planting in containers is the obvious solution. There really isn't much
different between traditional gardening and container gardening except one
very important fact.
Traditional gardens rely heavily on nature for their basic needs, but
container gardens rely VERY heavily on you for their basic needs.
Container gardens need a lot of attention from you. You need to be able
to provide them with the nutrients they need as container gardens tend to
dry out quickly.
You can grow almost anything in containers, from edible plants to water
love plants. You can even grow trees, but they will never get to their
intended size as their roots are confined.
While you don't have to go for slow growing trees and shrubs, it's
probably a good idea if you think you won't have a lot of time to spare on
your plants.
It's also a good idea to select plants that are able to survive well in
drought like conditions and are quite hardy.
When it comes to selecting the type of containers to put your plants
in, the most popular pots seem to be terracotta and stone. However, be
careful with weight restrictions if you are putting your containers on
balconies, you don't want to do any structural damage to your home.
Taking care of a plant in a container is not all that hard. Make sure
they get adequate water, have good soil, get pruned when needed and
re-potted when they get too big for their current home. Also don't forget to
fertilize.
If you do however want to slow the growth of your plants, prune the
roots to slow the growth.
